Leigh Horner
Mental Health Promotion Worker
I am an Enhanced Evidence-Based Practitioner specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with a focus on low-level worry, anxiety, low mood and phobias. I am also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor (England), having completed my instructor training in June 2019. I began my career as a volunteer working with disabled young people. Following this, I then worked as a coordinator for National Citizen Service before working for Merseyside Youth Association. Here I became extremely passionate about working with hard-to-reach young people and ensuring all young people are included in decision-making and having their voices heard, regardless of their background.
I am extremely passionate about youth voice; it’s at the heart of every project we deliver. I have worked in partnership with the Children’s Society, DfE, Schools Parliament, UNICEF and more. These are opportunities I have coordinated, which led to our young people being invited to parliament to meet with the children’s minister. The young people were given the opportunity to talk about children’s rights and how more support needs to be available in childhood around issues such as trauma, young carers, and disadvantaged youth.
